Captain Skidmarks was a Hash Hero in always being the first to start checking out the trail from the check, and always getting it wrong - he must have run 50% further than anyone else. Bombastic did much of the front running, but sadly he appears to be going blind and dumb, because we never heard a peep out of him. Announcements came thick and fast - what with the MacTilda Hash on the 25th January on Bongoyo Island (free burial at sea for those who bring their own lead weights), a Mismanagement meeting on Thursday 15th and next weeks hash at CampBed's place opposite Yatch Club. Gay Haggis got his Religious Advisor's stint off to a good start by castigating the Short Cutting Bastards and then organising a boat race (ie drinking race) in which HorniGoat, poor girl, was sandwiched tightly between Wet Dream and Head Gasket, yet did a creditable job of swallowing her beer while fending off the wandering hands - after two rounds the result was a draw (and the drinking teams also drew). Detached Member was in deep do do for failing to inform the virginal Charlie about what happens when you pitch up to the Hash in new shoes, and the RA decided that he should be punished by a horizontal down down. This really scared Detached Member, and he fought like a marine on Ritalin, but he calmed down once he had Boogie Boobs sitting on his chest and pouring beer into him. And she did it again a few minutes later, for what reason my notebook is silent on. Charlie seemed to quite enjoy drinking beer from his shoe, but then he is from Oklahoma. Maggie, a semi-virgin from Oregon, was asked if she could remember who it was who last made her come. Flappy Pussy was called to account for climbing Kili without taking the Hashit with him, and was awarded said regalia for his impudence. Maggie, who had been asking for it for some time, was up first, and she got the name "Happy with three fingers". Don't ask me what it means, I only write the stuff down. Of course it is far too much of a mouthful, and will probably be abbreviated to "Happy" or "Fingers" - anodyne perhaps, but at least you can tell your mother without embarassment. Not so in the case of the next to be baptised: - Mark, for it was he, is a man who goes down a lot, so after not much thought he was christened "MuffDiver". As we are on the subject (so to speak) I read in The Manchester Guardian last week that many young women in the USA are planning to shave theirs off on Inauguration Day - though whether to celebrate Obama's crowning or George's dismissal was not made clear - perhaps our Harriettes might like to follow their example? Any road, I got the distinct impression that Muffy and his missus weren't overly thrilled with his new name, because he came crawling to me afterwards to try and get me to falsify the Trash by recording the name as "MuffDiver M.D." - quite why he should think this a more sanitary version beats me, but I appeal to Hashers to speak his name with discretion - never in front of children, old ladies, straight-laced folks or his missus. This Hash just gets better and better, thanks largely to superb organisation from Old Mother Riley, Prawn and Boogie Boobs - and with special thanks to Jonathan the Piper. For the incognoscenti amongst you I should explain that this Hash is a celebration of a) the birthday of Scotland's national poet, Robert Burns, and b) Australia Day - and as such is commonly referred to as the MacTilda Hash. The run got off to a very confusing start because of extremely mendacious marking by Klingon - every false trail was checked by a Brit, then rechecked by a Marine, then rechecked again by a Scandiwegian, and so on and on for the first 20 minutes. Finally the runners got the bit between their teeth and set off on the long haul down the north shore of the island. Good to see Upskirts and other harriettes tackling the tricky terrain. The runners met up with the walkers again at the chapel for the traditional benediction from The Very Reverend Bishop of Bongoyo, Aloysius Prawn. This was followed by communion: - the body (oatcakes) and the blood (whisky) of the Great Grand Master who watches over us all. And then we wandered back chatting and looking in the pools - but unlike previous years there were no live clams or starfish to be seen, only a very few soft corals. The Haggis was paraded around the beach with full bagpipe accompaniment and then served up for the delectation of the assembled throng. The Circle got underway underwater, with Wet Dream leading us in a spirited rendering of "Father Abraham", on his back, while trying to keep salt out of his wine. Announcements came thick and fast, none more so than that about Spitsssssssssssss and Babycakes party at their shack on Saturday 31st January - everyone has to wear a moustache apparently (yes, girls, it shouldn't be difficult). Rippa was downed downed for daring to fall comatose under the table before the British High Commissioner gave the Loyal Toast at the Burns Night Supper the night before. After much more ar**ing about it was noticed that Flatulence was shivering, so he was dragged into the centre for punishment, along with others that seemed to have tumescent nipples - including Dominatrix, and Jonathan the Piper. Talking of erectile tissue, reminds me of the Curious Case of Sexuella, who ran into the water with her hands over her naughty bits (the northern naughty bits that is). How delightful it would have been if she was one of those harriettes with enormous breasts and tiny hands, but everything fitted perfectly, and so decorum (so important for a Hash) was maintained. To tell the truth I haven't laughed so much since last years Bongoyo Hash where Close Encounters ran so fast in the three-legged race that she left her bikini bottoms behind. Then there were Australian and Scottish games. The Australians pride themselves in their prowess at welly-boot-throwing but it was a cross-breed - Salty Gonads - who won. The Scottish game was of course the tug-of-war, harriers versus harriettes. As in previous years, the harriettes won the "best of three" contest (with a little help) which just goes to show that the harriers are all talk and beer-belly, whilst the harriettes are not just "fur coat and no knickers." Paulina and Juma, our House Keeper and gardner respectively will be available to start work 1st April, possibly before. Paulina has worked for many expatriate families including Mariette's predecessor. She speaks reasonable English, simpler words and slower speech makes things very clear to her. She has not been involved with cooking duties but has cleaned and maintained our household for 21/2 years. She is the atypical "Get on with it" house keeper, with only a little guidance here and there she keeps our house organised. She has worked with children in previous jobs although not with us. She loves dogs and is very reliable in looking after them even if you go on leave. She can liase with contractors in maintenance issues / language taking stress out of a situation. Juma like Paulina has worked for Mariette's predecessor and many other expatriate families. As most of us do not know much about gardening or it is too hot to try, Juma is an excellent choice. As I did not know much about the garden, Juma was left to his own devices and has kept our garden neat, tidy and orderly much to our pleasure and relief. He does not speak very good English but certainly knows his job. He is fine with dogs although Paulina took more to do with them. Juma can also be given seeds and will use his knowledge to plant the garden be they flowers of herbs, again an asset to us when in Tanzania.
